Warcross by Marie Lu

Book Review (short and sweet)

Warcross by Marie Lu

Characters: i didn't really connect with any of the characters in Warcross. I kept trying to connect to the
main character Emika and i couldn't find myself connecting with her or anyone else. i did like Emika though because she was intelligent and quick on her feet which was fun to see. Also toward the end the dynamics between her and her team was fun to witness as well.

Romance: The romance to me felt forced and not natural the love interest didn't really make any sense with Emika and it surely wasn't developed so by the end i felt no chemistry or attachment to the romance.

Plot: The plot was very slow in the beginning and then gave me whiplash at the end so the plot would've been better if it had been evenly spaced. The turn the story took at the end wasn't shocking and it was kind of predictable and i felt it didn't do anything to add to the story.

World building: I liked the world of Warcross at first i didn't like the way the virtual reality was executed but when the games started i liked it. I wish it had been developed and explained more but it was okay.

Writing: The writing seemed to lag a bit more than Marie's other books but it wasn't bad just something new to get used to.

Overall, i was pretty disappointed in this book it was not what i expected and i wouldn't recommend it unless you really want to see if you yourself like it. I won't be tuning in to the sequel unless I'm out of books to read. If you want to read an amazing Marie Lu work i would highly recommend The Young Elites and it's sequel The Rose Society those were amazing.

Nexis by A.L. Davroe

Book Review ( blended tea all my thoughts mushed)

Nexis by A.L. Davroe

This book was extremely hard to get into I have never spent this much time on a YA book before it took
me three and a half weeks to read this because the beginning is like trudging through mud the pacing in
the beginning is oh so painfully slow in my opinion and it took me so long to get into this I really got
immersed into the story by 35%. I feel like the pacing of the plot is so off and unevenly distributed
throughout the story the beginning was slow as molasses the middle was the perfect pace and the ending
was so fast I got whiplash. These are all varying degrees of plot pace that would have done the story so
much justice to be leveled out . Moving on, I loved the virtual reality game. To me this idea was so inventive and unique to see and I loved the idea of it and I thought it was so cool I found myself wishing it
was real. The romance was moving too fast at first but then I grew to enjoy it and respect it for how and
what it was. I didn't feel any emotional connection or attachment to any of the characters i enjoyed Guster
and Ellani for the most part. Speaking of Ellani she was okay but she annoyed me to no end sometimes
with the things she would say and her actions. The sci fi elements I wish were explained better it was very
info dumpy as for the world it was interesting and we had a clear depiction but not really a clear basis for
it . The writing style in the beginning helped aid in how slow the pacing was somehow and helped give
me the reading slump I had because yes when I started this book it put me in a reading slump. Toward
the middle and end the writing along with the plot became more captivating and enjoyable.
Overall, I only reccomend this to those who like Science fiction which was why I picked it up otherwise I
wouldn't reccomend it because of how slow the start was and how mediocre it was as a whole to me but I
did find some enjoyment in it.

The Third Twin by C.J. Omololu

Book Review

The Third Twin by C.J. Omololu

Omg this book was amazing i haven't marked a book 5 stars in so long but his is going in my favorites i would recommend this to everyone :))))))

Plot: The plot of this book was very fast paced and i really really enjoyed this book because of how it had me on the edge of my seat. The plot sucked me in and captivated me from the first page and it was incredibly intriguing. The only thing was i kind of suspected who the killer was by the middle but i wasn't sure so it didn't take away from my overall enjoyment.

Mystery: The mystery element was very well done i don't read a lot of mystery but i can say at first the mystery was put on the back burner but now i understand why because once the mystery really starts it doesn't end and it kept me guessing and wondering who the killer was. This book kept me not trusting anyone and i loved that about it that factor was extremely well done. The mystery was brilliantly developed and it captivated me and i had to spend all day reading it and when i wasn't reading it i was thinking about how much i wanted to continue and that was all because of the amazing mystery.

Characters: At first i didn't feel connected to Lexi the main character, i didn't like how she felt like she had to pretend to be Alicia to get people to like her. But as the story progressed i started rooting for her and connecting to her and i like how she was so smart and quick on her feet. I liked following her around as the main character. Since the romance wasn't a big element of the story i'll group it in with this category but i loved the main love interest who I'm not going to name because its a spoiler but i loved him and his personality and thought he added a lot to the story and was a good supporting character. I was connected to the twins Ava and Lexi and i enjoyed reading about their twinness and their dynamics as well as the dynamics between them and other characters it was well done.

Writing Style: The writing style obviously wasn't anything special it wasn't poetic or lyrical but i feel like the way this was written fit the story. The chapters seemed to fly by not only because of the plot but also because of the writing style. It was very straight to the point it wasn't descriptive or flowery and i appreciated that because it matched the pacing and the feel of the plot. The writing was also very easy to read and wasn't disjointed and flowed easily which was part of the reason it kept you turning the pages. It also somehow lent a hand in developing the characters and making them feel more real.

All the story elements worked together beautifully to successfully captivate me and to keep me on the edge of my seat needing to know what would happen. This book was an amazing thriller and i was so sad to finish this book because i felt connected to the characters. Frankly, I loved this book I'm so happy i read it and i haven't been this happy about a book in a long time. This is only the second book to go in my favorites all year so thats saying something. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fast paced thriller or even for those who enjoy contemporaries you might be surprised by how much you will enjoy it. I'll gladly give this book 5/5 stars.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Book Review(blended tea edition all my thoughts at once)

                  Heartless by Marissa Meyer

wow that character development and transformation was insane, nonetheless i was so disappointed

I expected this book to blow me out of the water. The middle and the beginning dragged and were unnecessarily drawn out. I didn't connect to Jest i didn't find him all that swoon worthy. Cath annoyed me at the end she made such stupid decisions and it just ugh annoyed me. The Hatta i didnt like at all he was in fact my last favorite character . I liked the whole moral of the beginning of the story which is live your life for yourself and do what makes you happy. I wanted more of the Chesire cat i liked him he was cute and funny it would have been nice if he had more of an overall involvement with the plot and story. Cath's transformation was interesting to see and she is a polar opposite of herself in the beginning to the end its crazy. I feel like the romance took too much center stage can't believe I'm saying that but if i had connected with it i would appreciated that but i didnt so i feel like the entire story and its purpose was the romance which was unfortunate. I would have liked more action and more suspense. It was incredibly predictable i saw it all coming. The jabberwock side plot didn't excite me and it didnt leave me on the edge of my seat it didnt scare me that much. The kingdom of hearts was very childish at times it felt like i was reading middle grade. The writing style was the best part of this book and its saving grace i love Marissa's writing style which is why i will read more of her books in the future. The writing flowed beautifully and it was whimsical in style and it was just the best part of the book. The first 50 pages of this book was amazing and afterward my connection to this book waned the book dragged and became childish i expected it to have action and a heart pounding romance and be high stakes but it wasn't and I'm so disappointed. Comparing this to Fairest i feel like Fairest was a lot better because we got more into Levana's psyche and her craziness engulfed my soul as i was reading it haha. In this book it was like all in the name of love... this entire book was and thats it. We didn't get into Cath's head like i thought we would. All in all, I'm just as disappointed in this one as i was with the lunar chronicles final book, Winter. I would only recommend this to fans of Marissa Meyer. I hope the next book of hers i read i will love because it hurts to be disappointed by one of my favorite authors twice in a row:(

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

                        Book Review

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

Writing: I though the writing was super entertaining and gripping but not to the point where i couldn't put the book down. The writing wasn't special or lyrical in any way but there were some quotable parts.

Characters: I really enjoyed Paul especially the Paul in Russia he was so sweet and i went awww a couple of times. I would have enjoyed more backstory on him and Theo so i could feel a closer connection to them. Now on to the main character, Marguerite she was soooo annoying. The way that she would reject Paul because she felt that by kissing him she was cheating him???! Are you kidding me? Also in the beginning she got drunk like what was the point of that? It was so stupid. Some of the decisions she would make the things that she would do were so stupid. The girl also didn't know how to keep her priorities straight it was so annoying.

Romance: As for the romance between her and Paul in Russia i wanted more time getting to know him and i really liked his character i wanted more of him and i wanted to see more of his personality to make the romance seem more real. Now i know to some that might sound crazy because a lot of people complained about the fact the romance took center stage in this book. But i love romance so i thought there wasn't enough romance i wanted more bonding time between Paul and Meg.

Plot: I predicted a lot of the twists and "Shockers" that were in the story if i hadn't suspected them think i would have enjoyed this more. As for the plot it had a decent enough pace but i definitely wanted to see more parallel universes and i wish the ones we did see were more intricate and imaginative. Also while reading at times i found myself not really caring about what would happen to the characters and not really on the edge of my seat.

Scifi: I enjoyed the jumping into each parallel universe but i wanted more explanations on how the firebird worked and also how all the universes co existed. We needed more of that also something i forgot to add was how confusing this book was at times like i never knew why the characters were going here i never understood their plans. That was frustrating.

Overall, i enjoyed this book but i was a little disappointed it was entertaining and I'm interested in the world i will definitely read the sequel because i am curious as to what will happen next.

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

                           Book Review

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

Wow this book was unlike any other book I've ever read and I ahhhh I love how in this book everyone is in the gray area you don't know who's good or bad it's so subjective to the way you look at things what's good and right and bad and wrong is no longer clear the lines are blurred sooo good

Okay now to the review
Characters: Usually a story is either plot driven or character driven this book was really neither in actuality it was characterization driven which was a first for me our main character Adelina is really what makes the story in my opinion she has this overwhelming amount of darkness in her usually in young adult at the very least the main character is good but no no no Marie Lu decided to take another turn in this book and I was so glad she did Adelina was so unique I've never read about a character quite like her she was strong she knew how to pick herself up when she fell down she was bad she was dark she was sinister vengeful and vindictive with a little tiny bit of goodness in her at first I was a bit creeped out and uncomfortable with her but I got used to her real quick and me and her gelled well and I learned to like her she is an extremely complex character with an extraordinary amount of pain and loneliness and darkness in her she is the feeling of darkness we all have inside of us made into a person she brought up a lot of questions on what is morally right and what is good and bad and made you take a step back at look at yourself which I looved I love morally ambiguous character (*cough Warner my one true love cough*) her character was very intricate and so so strong yes she could be cruel but that was because of the way she grew up and I loved the flashbacks throughout the story that got us to know her so well on a very deep level her character intruiged me to no end and her character was highly unpredictable as for the other characters they were good I liked how no one had 100% good selfless intentions no one was fully good or bad everyone was somewhere in between.

Plot: The plot was fast paced and there was always something going on it never left me bored that's all I. Have to say about it and I loved the whole super powers idea I'm always such a sucker for those and I loved how after you survived the blood fever it left you with random markings like eye or color changes that was particularly fascinating to me I want that to be explored more I like the turn its taking for the second book I have lots of theories :)

Writing style: Unlike the writing style in Legend this writing style was to the point not boring and easy to read and get through it was the writing style that got me hooked right away I flew through this book because of it you know the writing is good when your turning pages without even being aware of it and then you look down shocked to see how far you've gotten such a big improvement from Legend in my opinion

Romance : The romance was interesting I just wished we got to know Enzo more and that he got more time with Adelina for that I didnt feel very connected to him I would have liked to see that fleshed out more

Overall I really liked this book btw I love that Adelinetta has white hair and only one eye how wicked cool is that? Once again she's so unique I was so invested in this story and this world and it felt so real to me I can't wait to pick up the sequel and I hope more people read this I would most definitely reccomend this especially for those who want a darker fantasy btw this was my first fantasy and this genre did not disspapoint so happy this book could be the book to introduce me to the fantasy world I think I'm going to like it here;)
